Several moments of quiet pleasure in contemplating the thought that...
Ripper Street has been renewed for not 1 but 2 new series (and that Matthew MacFadyen is still with us and yes I'm doing the Snoopy dance)!
And my copy of The Globe Theatre's production of Henry V with Jamie Parker has arrived! And next week The Globe Theatre's production of The Tempest with Roger Allam as Prospero will be available! (You saw that didn't you? Roger Allam? Prospero? I will be having this ASAP) And that the week after that The Globe Theatre's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream will be available. (I will be having this also! And then maybe I will be having Macbeth and Twelth Night! Yeah!)

AN historian has unearthed the first unseen Sherlock Holmes story in over 80 YEARS -which Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote to help save a town bridge.
Walter Elliot, 80, found the 1,300 word tale starring the famous sleuth in a collection of short stories written for a local bazaar.
The wooden bridge in the Scottish town of Selkirk was destroyed by the great flood of 1902 and locals organised a three-day event to raise funds for a new one in 1904.
As part of the event, organisers sold a collection of short stories by locals called "The Book o' the Brig".
The famed author - who loved visiting Selkirk and the surrounding area - contributed a tale before opening the final day.
Walter has now unearthed a copy of the book and spotted his story -'Sherlock Holmes: Discovering the Border Burghs and, by deduction, the Brig Bazaar'.

sign-ups open until february 7th
I’m tired of playing Least-in-sight, so I’ve decided to sign up for three fests:
hlh_shortcuts,
intoabar, and
yuletide, and hoping it won’t stress the system.
Signups for
hlh_shortcuts are open - Mine is here - GO THOU AND DO LIKEWISE!
intoabar is an odd sort of fest – in the absence of an antagonist (no giftee) you’re out there alllll alone, flapping as hard as you can. It’s not a bad thing – far from it, personal challenge and all. I was very happy with last year’s effort: The Perpendicular Lunch (Pleeeese, Ripper Street, come back soon!) but I’ve gone with the Dreamwidth comm this year because the DW matches seemed to be a little less cruelly random.
But, on the theory John Reese can handle anything that comes at him, here’s my signup:
Who walks into the bar?: John Reese
What fandom are they from?: Person Of Interest
What other fandoms can you write?: Elementary, Hannibal, Justified, Moonlight
Signups for
yuletide aren’t yet open, but all of my accessible-as-dirt nominations were accepted (I cannot believe Elementary made the cut):
1. ✔ Ripper Street
✔ Edmund Reid
✔ Deborah Goren
✔ Homer Jackson
✔ Rose Erskine
2. ✔ Moonlight
✔ Josef Kostan
✔ Mick St. John
✔ Logan Griffen
✔ The Cleaner
3. ✔ Elementary
✔ Sherlock Holmes
✔ Thomas Gregson
✔ Mycroft Holmes
✔ Gareth Lestrade

Leaning against my father on winter evenings, watching flickering black and white television back in the day, the man Garner portrayed, Maverick, was my childhood crush - tall, dark, a dandy, clever with cards, and quick with a gun he preferred not to use - he was a trickster on the side of Right if not of the Law .

Who is the tall, dark stranger there?
Maverick is the name.
Ridin' the trail to who knows where,
Luck is his companion,
Gamblin' is his game...

As some of may recall, my mother died last August. We determined the best thing to do would be to take her ashes home to Oregon. I'll be flying into Bozeman on Thursday - cross fingers I get in around 1pm, BJ picks me up and we roll north through Spokane and then south to Pendleton - Columbia River Gorge - BJ wants to do the John Day Fossil beds - then volcanos - we both want to go to Newberry Crater - Friday in Bend and the High Desert Museum. We have reservations Saturday and Sunday at Union Creek Resort just below Crater Lake, where we will meet up with my brother and SIL.
When my parent met, she was working at Beckie's Cafe at Union Creek and my father was the Regional Ranger at Crater Lake. The plan is to hike out in back of the cafe - cascades, bridge, waterfall...
